last evening was out for a cruise in my road runner , with just the park lights on I have dash lights , turn on headlights and I lose power to all dash lights do I have a bad headlight switch?? checked all connections and every thing seems ok

I would say yes. The dash lights work in "park" so that tells you the park lights are OK and the wiring from the headlight switch to the parks lights has continuity. I would pull the switch out & with your VOM & see if you have continuity between the 12V "in" terminal and the park light terminal when the headlights are pulled out to "on"

ok thanks , was pretty sure that would be the prob , just thought I would ask in case I might be overlooking something

Yes, there are two separate circuits running inside the same switch for the headlights and parking lights. Corrosion on the tracks can cause that condition. I can help with your switch if is shows that is not functioning properly.
