So planning for next years build for the Duster and looking to get my -1 ported. So who is the best to get ahold of, also would I see much gain going to the 2.25 valve. What kinda gain will I net over out of the box -1 to full blown ported ?

Going from unported 2.19 intakes to fully ported 2.25 intakes will increase flow at the higher lifts from about 310 to 380 cfm. With the right shortblock of 528 or bigger with a 4.50 bore and all the whistles and bells you are looking at as much as 150 to 175 hp. If you put them on a small motor with a flat tappet cam, you will get much much less.
I went from a 499 13/1 on alky with bowl ported -1s running 2.25 intakes to a full on port and polish, 528 big bore megablock and picked up from 9.30s to 8.80s at 3,000 lbs. I also added a vacuum pump and better pistons with .043 rings and gas ports but that was about the extent of extras besides the head work.

8..603 156 mph best, 2905 lbs 549, indy 572-13, alky

I have several sets of Indy 440-1 CNC ported by Jeff at MCH and one set of non ported Indy SR with M. W. ports, I have dyno tested two different motors with the SR and then the first set of ported -1, the -1 have the 2.25 intake valves and the SR don't. The SR flowed 340 CFM on the same flow bench that the ported -1 with the bigger valves flowed 370 on The -1 have Harland Sharp rockers that check to be 1.65 ratio at the retainers, Harland Sharp sells them as 1.60 ratio The SR have T&D single shaft rockers with 1.65 ratio, I have check the lift at the retainers on both sets and there is not .010 valve opening differences bertween the two sets of heads There was 50 HP more on my low compression(10.78 to 1)pump gas 518 C.I. low deck motor, 727 peak HP on the SR and 775 HP with the -1 and the same set of -1 heads and carb. on the 526 C.I. high deck motor gained 70 HP, from 775 to 845 HP on race gas My dyno headers are to small to work good on the -1, the flanges are to small and block the bottom 1/4 inch off on the -1 ports, not so on the stock size exhaust ports on the SR heads. Both motors missed from 5200 RPM on up to peak HP, 7300 RPM on the high deck and 7000 RPM on the pump gas motor with the -1 heads Different cams also, the 526 motor has a little more duation and a different LSA also, 108 vesrus 110 on the bigger motor. I've seen several posts on here about stock non ported -1 heads flowing less than my stock M.W. SR did

Call Jeff at Modern Cylinder!

My 440-1 CNC ported 345cc heads done by Jeff flowed 382cfm at .800" lift and propel my bullet to 8.48 at 158.7mph at 2,775#'s.

I am a happy customer...

Good luck,

Arnie

Do Indy make an early casting of the -1's and a later version of the -1's?

There are three verisons of -1s, early mid and late. I believe that the early stopped in the late 90s to early 2000s then the latest are from around 08 on.. I think... lol

when Indy -1's first came out i had a look at a set & was impressed with the quality of the castings & machine work. i saw a new set a couple of months ago, loads of porosity, halfassed machining & rough casting from the mold. i guess you can call this new vs old with ICH castings.

I was talking with a gentleman a few weeks ago and he mention something to the fact that Indy produce a head in the earlier years that were not a favorite for porting and i purchase a set back in 96-97 and was thinking was this a good head for porting

I am using TTi 2 - 2 1/8" step headers with 4" collectors for low deck w/ -1's in an A body. They make good power, but very, very, hard to work on the car...

cheers,

Arnie
