Went racing at the local track championship round on Saturday, been a little while since i raced competitively. As most here may know i have been trying to step up alittle performance wise.
Anyhoo, thought i might try another intake over the M1 plus mighty demon 825 - fitted a Victor 440,port matched it and ran a HP1000 based carb.
Got to the track forecast was for cool but sunny.
DA for the day started at 1250 went up to 1605 then started diving 987,591,634,481,380.Darned cold afternoon evening
The good - went 5 rounds of eliminations
Even better had a bye in the semi's ran it out the back door and ran a PB 11.067 YEEHAH
DA was 481
The not quite so good - 0.008 red light in the final for another runner up.AARGH , getting a bit sick of these.
The wash up .
The car would only run mid teens in the 118's at 1250-1605DA .Did try the 825 on 1 qualifyer it was slower. only picked up with the low DA.Obviously running fat.Dyno AFR showed lean so this would indicate the motor will not pull this manifold.Have run the fastest MPH's with the M1 and 825 , ran 11.08 and mid high 119's at 1400-1600DA 2 weeks ago.
This puts the nail in the coffin - the heads are the final limit to this motor.
the M1 and 825 are now back on for next weekends Nostalgia Muscle car meet
thanks for all the help here on the forum and at home
By the way i also reweighed the Satellite - 3660lbs with me in it

congrats Tex .
You just need a little more mph to do it, good 60ft for a large car though.

thanks Deaks,
car has only ever run over 120mph once - went 121.3
mostly sits mid to high 119's so i reckon a 10 is out of reach.i have to cage it etc in the 10's so that isn't going to happen.Plus the class cuts off at 11.00
to get a 1.5 sixty has been my aim so happy with that
Ron ya better watch out, i may do another motor late next year definately a stroker this time

I just hope I can make it to the track next year as I wont make it to the track at all this year. Funds are so tight I just cant get there. I hope I have a good winter and have better funds next summer. Ron

Good job man...............oh so close to that elusive 10 second pass........... I assume it`s a big block and I KNOW it would like a 1050 dominator.................watcha waitin for? Don`t care for demon carbs myself..............

hey Thumper,
like ihave said a 10 i dought it's capable.i have used a prosystems hP1000 carb ,825 mighty demon and dual 600 eddys.best mph is the demon, the heads will not use the extra flow.i can't see a dommy stepping it up.but thanks for the wishs.I have used 2 mighty demons on my cars and had a lot of luck - go figure
Ian,
after pulling the carb on sunday there was a huge amount of fuel staining in the runners so i swapped the manifold and carb back.i have the 825 set as good as i can after 4 years of running it.it will always 1000' faster and et similar to the prosystem just off slightly with mph.
Judgement Day is on this Saturday we'll see if it backs up 2 wednesday nights ago.
hey do you run any of the APSA meets,i will run the November one here in Sydney
# i may have to look at how to stop the tyres turning on the rims both moved around 3-4 inches

If you`ve had good luck w/those carbs then there`s got to be a .01 there somewhere.......... What`s the engine combo..............

Thumper,
the motor is a 1977/8 440 block plus 0.055,stock stroke eagle crank, stock rods,SRP pistons, stealth heads with pocket porting only(hand done by the machine shop),M1 manifold 825 mighty demon.1 7/8 hookers into 3" pipes finishing at the diff with aero chambers.
Comp is 10.78 figured, pistons .003/.005 down the hole .027 cometic gasket.
Cam is a custom - 258/258@050 , 108 centreline in at 108 , 520 net lift
Vert flashes to 5200 , 9 1/2" from Dynamic
nothing fancy but well sorted - just have to stop tinkering
oh it also runs an alternater and power steering all on 98 pump gas
i have included the best previous run to compare, this was 2 weeks ago

thanks Ian,
i have timing looped it but it seems 20BTDC is best, did not try this with the victor manifold due to time restaints.
a bigger high speed bleed would lean out the carb.it was at around 13.2:1 AFR with 97 rears.but ran like rich - carb signal was probly poor possibly leading to overjetting and fuel drop out/trickling from manifold to port.i had a similar issue with the modman dual quad,1" 4 port spacers helped as did removing plenum volume.
odd really as i have always run the M1 with a 1" open spacer,1" 4 hole and 4 hole taper spacer always seemed to hurt this manifold power wise.
back to old faithful for this weekend
thanks for the help and ideas
