From a post on a Dakota Forum:
"Most technical standards prefer a crimped and strain relieved connection because it's generally the most idiot proof. If the wires are properly stripped and fully inserted, and IF the correct connector is used the with correct ratcheting crimper, then the connection is gas tight so corrosion won't be an issue. The strain relief built into the connector prevents the wire from flexing and breaking off at the crimp point.
Soldering on the other hand is not idiot proof and the connection even if properly soldered is often not strain relieved. Most solder connections typically have way too much solder and if it's not a cold solder joint the solder wicks too far up the wire strands, past whatever strain relief of heat shrink tubing. Then when the wire is flexed, the strain is applied at the end of the solder wicking allowing the wire to break. If you can't see all of the exterior wire strands, it's too much solder and if it's not smooth and shiny like chrome, it's a cold solder joint."
I crimp everything now WITH the right tool, and shrink wrap the connection. If you can solder like a pro, do it if not...Crimp.

Thumper I rewired my car a few months back. I used the 12 mini circut from this site. http://www.ezwiring.com/wiring_harness.html
That looks like a decent kit.... I have about $200 invested into mine BUT I have plenty of wire left over on spools for other projects

The first thing to do would be make a list of things that need power. At that point you can decide on what can share a home run to the fuse box and what needs a relay and so on to figure out how many circuits you will need. The main reason for running some of the original harness is to reuse the connections for the steering column, body/light wiring, w/s wipers (if you have them), etc. At that point you can clean up the wiring you have added on by landing the (+) side to an ATC fuse block that is powered from your existing Ford relay. I bet I could rewire the car for less than $100 that way. It would be nice, functional, and easy to troubleshoot or add additional circuits.
