Truck has been sitting for several years. The brake lights and turn signals work. I replaced the dimmer switch, fuses, pulled the bulkhead connections apart, pulled the plug off the headlight switch. I can hear the breaker click in the fuse box when I pull the headlight switch on. I have checked grounds and all seem to be in place and making good connections. I'm thinking it's about time for a cold one and a little Captain Morgan's on the rocks. It won't fix the headlight problem, but it might adjust my attitude.

Check the wiring around the high beam indicator button on the floor, and make sure its plugged in all the way.

I agree, that'll do it (cause them to NOT work)

good luck! Otherwise, wiring issue somewhere, ground, relay, etc.

If the relay is clicking you have a short somewhere.Do the tail lights come on when you turn on just the park lights?Try taking the connectors off the headlight bulbs.Ive seen the bulbs go bad and short inside. If it still kicks out the HL relay there is a short in the wiring.Un bolt the hi beam switch from the floor and see if it kicks out.Ive also seen the wiring to it ground on the floor.Rocky

A missing ground will either have the lights dim or not working. It wont make the HL relay kick out.Something in the curcuit is shorted to kick it outRocky

My 87 d150 had a bunch of intermittent electrical problems that ended up being caused by the bulkhead connector needing cleaning /tightening- the one through the firewall.

^ this

Look very closely at the floor switch, the connector, and the wires in that same area for a dead short to ground.
Decades of living down in the mud and dirt that is a pickup's floor, AND getting stomped on and kicked at is not a kind environment.

Okay, I played with the dimmer switch connections and now have headlights. Still don't have tail lights or parking lights. Turn signals, hazards and brake lights work just fine. What am I missing here?

tail lights and parking lights are the same small filament in the 1157 bulbs. This circuit originates in the headlight switch. Could pull the connector off of the headlight switch & jump fire to the correct female terminal in the connector & see if they light up. If not go downstream to the next connector & check it for fire (might be behind the drivers kick panel). keep working your way rearward & checking each connector for the open
