i need some advice! chance to buy a nice pt cruiser cheap, but has broken timing belt. do these motors have enough valve clearance to avoid damage or does everything crash when a belt breaks?

According how fast the motor was spinning when it broke. Usually will bend a couple of valves. But if its cheap enough and a nice car go for it and get it fixed.

They dont usually bend valves. The valves actually hit each other depending on the RPMs.My wifes broke at about 25 MPH.New belt and WP and runs fine. They are a pain to change as its really tight in there. The exhaust cam has to be about 1 tooth off the timing marks when you set the cams.Rocky
