I am currently running a Flex-a-lite ridge 6 blade with a std thermal unit. Will there be a an improvement switching to a viscous 5 blade? Does anyone have the total height of the viscous fan clutch? Is it std duty or heavy duty? Does anyone know if you can just buy the viscous 5 blade only without the clutch?

I swapped out my flex fan for an original clutch style fan on the 383 and it seems to cool a little better now.

With a flex fan it is just a matter of time before there is radiator, hood or both damage. They are junk, stay away.

And that's if you're lucky. A local guy had one on his '55 Chevy back in the day and it threw a blade while he was under the hood.

Here is one that went through a hood....

I use the Summit 18.3" plastic fan. Works very well, it's super light and you won't cut you fingers up when working around it. And it's only $16.. you will need a 1.5" spacer.

I run a 18 inch Summit stainless flex on my 440.My kid runs one on the 413 also.Mine is at least 15 years old and sees 7K all the time.Had one on my Jeep also that saw probally 100K miles.Never any problems. My 65 is built to the max and street driven as is my sons. They both run stock rads and run under 190 all day even racing in the heat.Only fan I ever had break was the stock one on my 65.Rocky
