i have been collecting parts for a hopefully strong pulling engine.
now they change the rules for street stock to 470cid.
so a long time ago i got jake zareings 440-1c heads to buile a big block to kick some ford and chevy ass. well times and rules have changed.
i am going 400b engine with the 470 stroker kit in. that is as big as i can go and these heads are all out 375cfm 2.25valve heads.
i know it will have to rev and wonder what you can get the 1/2 pickups to safely oil at rpm wise or should i go external like my car is.

I use the stock 6 quart OEM 1970-71 Mopar street Hemi and 440 6 pak oil pans and the stock 440 3/8 pick up My car runs high nines to low tens corked up on Oregon pump gas, 518 C.I. in a 3450 lb. Duster. I've built a bunch of B-RB and 426 Hemi motors over the years, some with external oiling and some with stock type oiling like my current combination is. I really like the current deal, I shift at or above 7000 RPM on every run no oiling problems in 6 years of beating on motors in the car with that set up

A well setup 1/2 NPT internal pickup with a good windage tray and 8 qt pan can support 7500 rpm (7000 easy). I know most people switch at this point, but it isn't needed if everything else is right.

But if you already have the external oil pickup system, why not use it?
