My radiator sprung a leak, and need to repair or replace.

It is a 2998965 ('70 C-Body 383 A/C).

Should be a 2949054 I believe.

Is the 054 a larger capacity radiator than the 965 or should I just get the 965 re-done and re-install?

I could use more cooling capacity in really hot weather, but mostly never had a problem with the 965.

Also, will the shroud on the 965 fit the 054?

Any help or recommendations will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Mike

After flushing the cooling system and letting it cool down, I start taking it apart...

All four of the corbin hose clamps just fell apart in two pieces without applying any pressure to the pliers. No clamp load was holding those hoses in place...

Is that typical, or were they defective? I think they came from Year One about 20 years ago.

I think your 500 came with a 055, not 054. I doubt a 055 will cool any better than your 965.

I agree with your thinking that the Corbin clamps were defective.

edit; The 054 and 055 take a 2785935 shroud.

Thanks for the info!

Turns out the leak was from the bottom of the upper radiator hose at the radiator due to the broken clamp. It just sprayed all over the radiator making it look like that was the problem.

Reassembled everything with new clamps and all is good!

Great day for driving the Charger in Michigan!

Yes and with that the rad that fits the 965 , assuming the 965 has it's original side brackets , will not fit the 054 .

Mike your car should have an 054 in it.

On the hunt for my dad's old cars. They include 5 Daytona's, 2 superbirds, and 2 500's. Very interested in finding the Red on Red Daytona, and Q5 Charger 500, and have found both cars.

Thanks for the info guys!

The 965 is a perfect fit, not sure how they did that...

Everything is working well now, so I'll keep an eye out for an 054 and see what happens!

Thanks!

Mike
