I'd find some 915 heads & build for .040" quench (piston to head) for a MUCH more efficient eng (torque/mileage/power). 8 blade water pump with an added anticav plate. Possibly a VS rather than a DP carb & if a Holley get one of the holley clones with adjustable air bleeds

I hope that engine paint in the valley doesn't peel off ...

Hey JohnRR,Do you think i should use my 906 heads and kb400 pistons or should i use flattop and 516 heads? The only reason is We dont think the block was zerodecked but I aint got the money to take and have checked but all the machine work on it is done but the shop that done it shut down so the pistons might sit in the hole so which piston should i do?

I don't like the KB 400 piston ... someone is going to ask why , because I just do not , I don't really like any KB hyper , but it's not my engine ...

I would get 516's and a flat top , either the speedpro or KB since you are on a budget and use the .021 steel shim head gasket .

The paint in the valley , as long as the guy cleaned it real good and it sticks and doesn't peel off ...

That sound like a good motor. I would have used a smaller cam and 625 cfm carb, but you might be a good tuner.

that's going to depend on how FAR in the hole they'll be! along with which head gasket you run.

if you dont want to change heads, and want to increase compression, you can shave the heads too.

should be a simple job for any machine shop and you won't have to touch the block.

Painting the valley is pretty much unnecessary on anything except maybe an Oldsmobile 455. Our engines don't have oil return problems.

If you can't find a "decent" head, try looking at Edelbrocks new series. I think it's called an E-street. I talked with them at the Nats and supposedly they're going to have something smaller than an 80cc chamber, perfect for a 383 to help boost CR.

Like JohnRR mentioned, I'd go with the SpeedPro 2315's (no valve relief), of course you'll have to check your piston to valve clearance with that cam.

I'd ditch the Holley 750 DP and go with a vaccum secondary carb, maybe a little smaller too.

sounds like a good combo, i have KB pistons in a 440 and a 400, w/ no problems. the only thing I would not use is the 750dp. i`d use a 750vs holley.

no reason a 750DP wouldn't work fine. People that bash them can't tune them. I ran one on a mild 340 and it worked great, no "gas" smell, pulled hard as nails and I managed to get 17mpg at 70mph. I'd use what ever pistons gave you the most compression.

I guess the same can be said for those that bash Carter carbs

If you use the 906s the 162 is going to have your compression ratio at close to 8.0

not really.. just depends on what carter/Eddy carb you use for what application. I've used several of them in the past w/o issues. However I would never use the 750 Eddy on a mild 440.

Well i just got off the phone with mancini racing and told them my issue and they said i would have no problem with kb400 pistons and to make sure to measure how far the piston sits! They said if it is not zero decked to run steel shim head gaskets and my compression should be between 9.5 to 10.1!I can make a 750 dp work just like i did on a 360 but i like the 3310 too!And trucks can run too, they might be heavy but so is 71-74 b-bodies plus using 3000 stall and 3.91 gear and may go lower!

What are you planning to do with this truck ? Do you want it to run on pump premium ?
