I know these kinds of things are difficult to diagnose based on description, but input would be helpful. '89 Dip police car. Running perfect before this. Recent rebuild on the quadrajet and fuel filter, new ignition system, and complete tune up. Started fine cold, drove it about 4 miles, where it sat for about two hours. Left there, and within 2 miles I felt it hesitate and feel like it was going to stall. I was able to keep it running though, and it continued on fine. About two miles later, same thing. Sputtered and hesitated and then died (happened quick, like within five seconds of sputtering). Rolled off the road and sat for about 30 seconds, pumped it a bunch and restarted, although not easily. I quickly got back on the road and drove it straight home where it sits. It drove home perfectly, although only about another two miles. I am thinking fuel pump but have no test equipment. Only other thing I could think of was the orange box on the MP ignition (not grounded well enough or bad box?). But, I have always heard if it restarts right away it is usually fuel related. Thanks for any suggestions. Pls. keep in mind I am far from being a mechanic and just have some general knowledge and no test equipment. Thanks again.

No stalling issues before the extensive tune up? I would take the top off of the carb & blow out all passages with a can of starting fluid/check needle/seat/floats, good visual

No stalling issues before but it didn't run very well in general. Car was a bit neglected prior to my buying it, so it needed these things done. I happened to have a quadrajet that had a recent rebuild that I was running on another car (E58 Aspen) but I got a NOS Thermoquad for that and put the QJ on this car. It had operated perfectly (the QJ) though on the Aspen. Thanks.

Just did some maintenance on the Daughter's Brand X, bought new plugs, wires, cap and rotor from NAPA.
Swapped it all out and it ran like garbage. Thought I got the firing order off or something. After many hours of farting about and second guessing myself turns out one of my new plug wires was completely dead. So, I would go over the recent work and make sure nothing there is the issue.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

I am going to dig in tomorrow and look at everything very closely. I was just going to put a fuel pump on it and cross my fingers, but I think I need to look at some of the things mentioned first.
I hate intermittent problems. I am not so good at troubleshooting as it is, and lack tools, so this just makes it tougher. I will see what I can find.
Thanks.

Had mechanic check it since I was leaving it there anyway to have him install aluminimum K frame Isolators. He found one of the fuel hoses around the tank to be somewhat pinched and deteriorating inside, so he replaced it, but it still stalled on him. He said fuel pump is bad, so there you have it. Thanks for input.

on my SB when the FP went bad it either leaked fuel out of the weep hole or it just blew bubbles and very little fuel in the see thru filter. pop another on and good for a few months then more rust from the steel line would rupture the inner rubber part agian. it never showed any wet spots along the line on my 68 Dart but when I removed it and slamed it on the floor a few times big chunks came off and was very plane to see the line had pin holes sucking air also. changed the line and left the stock tank pick up as is and only replaced the rubber connections. that fixed it. with the ethel in the gas and the way it eats rubber fuel line,I would replace all rubber front to back along with a new pump.(may be whats killing the fuel pump too.) good luck
