I recently tore down my 340 for a rebuild. When putting it back together I noticed that the pressed in cup on the pushrod for the rocker adjusting stud was loose. I played a little with it and it came out. This is a mechanical cam motor and I'm not sure I trust just reinserting it and using. Anyone have any experience with this. I hate to get rid of the pushrods as they are 3/8". Any ides would be appreciated.

If it makes you nervous take center punch and peen a couple of little punch dings in it toward the tip of the cup shaft. That will tighten it up for you. Actually that insert shaft goes in deep enough that it will not come out anyway. If it does you have other problems leading to it.

I'm always one to be cautious. With .020 lash it can't come out, but if its loose my thoughts were it may wear the pushrod and eventually break off. Thanks, I like the idea

This and if you can get some green retaining compund , it's a stronger form of loctite used for things like holding hardened seats in cylinder heads and after cleaning the pushrod and the tip dab it with the green goop and then peen the end , it's NOT coming out .
