Looking at a 68' Baracuda with a 273. I've always wanted to put a 440 in one of these cars and build a nice street/strip machine.

What does it take to convert one of these to a big block? Motor mounts, headers, and transmissions are probably to hurdles.

What about wheels? I know these have the small bolt pattern and drums on all 4, probably need to update this to run a big block.

Suspension? Will the 273 front end parts support a 440? How about rear end, guessing the car has a 8 1/4 not sure about 8 3/4 availability for these cars.

Look at www.bigblockdart.com. Look at tech pages for lots of options on basic swap issues.

i have a 68 barracuda with a 440 originally a slant 6. first off a 273 to a 440 the wiring is different, not huge just different, the slant 6 and 383 68's used the same wiring harness. i used schumached motor mounts when i had the 383 in mine now sporting a 543 and now i switched to a motor plate. ....headers are a pain if your looking for flow b/c they dont like to fit, i also used the schumacher tri y's easy fit just kinda small i have cppas now. full length is a beeotch. a bb 727 is needed if going auto and you will need to have your driveshaft modified or a new one. the rear end is most likely an 8 1/4 so that will need to go. i got a van 8 3/4 and cut it then had my axles resplined and shortened. realativly inexpensive. if you want more street than stip id go with bigger torsion bars but the 273 ones will work, im running 318 outa 73 dart which i got my disk brakes from actually my whole k-frame upper and lower control arms. i tried the slant 6 bars and it sucked in the corners. lots of work but its worth it in the end, an easier way is to buy one that has all that done. seems like you can find them cheap people tend to lose interest when it gets expensive and they see no real changes for all the money thay have into it. good luck, mine has been a 10 year project just bits and pieces here and there.

Spend some time in the tech pages at www.bigblockdart.com. The rear end is either a 7-1/4 or 8-3/4. If it is a 68 the original engine is either a 225 or 318 (barring it being a Formula S). Disc brakes were optional on the 68, to.

Not really, but there are a BUNCH of 1967-only parts on the car.....
