When I pulled my AAR heater box, I found a nylon blower motor wheel. Anyone else find one of these?

To be honest I'm a bit disappointed I don't have the metal one.

2837679 - same one in my '71 - my blades were warped - I found a mint one here - keep checking here or on the bay - maybe someone has one - good luck

It depends when your heater box was made.
I do not know the exact cut off point but they went from metal to nylon somewhere in 3rd or 4 th month in 70.

Unsure of the heater box build date but the car build was mid march.

Whats confusing to me is how the PN doesn't appear in the parts manual . . . at all.

Seems that a 70-71 manual should have had the nylon wheel PN, but this isn't the first item I've come across this.

Any reason why you would want a metal one if your nylon one is okay?

I'll use it beause it's in great shape and whats original to the car, but the nylon one's tend to not run as true as the metal ones, which could cause uneven loading and premature failure to the bearing.

I was really just unsure because the parts manual didn't mention the PN and that most I've talked with either don't know what they have or had metal wheels.

I was sure it was the original to the car but enjoy the reasearch almost as much as the restoration.

For what it's worth my '72 W200 has the plastic impeller.

Hmmm, interesting....i just rebuilt the heater box from my AAR, and it also has the nylon fan. I robbed some parts from another e-body heater box for my resto, and while I was at it, I checked operation of both blower motors while the boxes were apart. The spare was equipped with a metal fan.
My results were quite the opposite though - the metal fan was tweaked and ran out of balance, where my original plastic ran nice and true.
I tried straightening the metal fan - it seemed very tender and very easy to bend, but since the plastic fan ran so smooth I ended up putting it back in.

Biggest difference between the two is that with time and patience you can adjust a metal fan to run balanced and true . . . . nylon you can try but it has a memory, so the only way to get it to take a permanent set is with heat, and if you get it wrong you'll have scrap.

According to my 70/71 parts catalog.
The part # is 2808 880 and was used in all models except the Dart & Valiant whose part # is 2808 772.
No mention of material being either plastic or metal.
