I'm starting on my 69 Charger, and I need to remove the cracked windshield. I have all the trim removed, but I was wondering if it's worth trying to save the original gasket? It feels hard as a rock, but it looks in good shape. But will trying to R&R the glass just chew it up anyway?
Thanks,
Al

I would toss it and use a new one.

chances are if it is hard as a rock, it will either tear or leak when a new windshield is installed. cheap insurance is to get a new gasket!

sorry to hijack your post but if your windshield is cracked you should be able to get the seal out without damage-if you think it`s too brittle don`t use it as you don`t want a leak-i heard if you place the rubber in one of those hot water rotowash machines they come back to life like new-maybe worth a try.
one day i need to restore my 69 charger r/t and it too has the original rubber which is not brittle -i`m not wanting to save the rubber but i must save the windshield as it is in perfect condition and dated correct. what is the best way to save the windshield? cut the rubber until the windshield falls out or is there a better way that someone has tried before. i might consider restoring the car with the windshield still in place-could be another option as it is a low mile car.
all the best
frank.

Thanks, I think I will just spring for a new one.
I was messing around with it a little earlier, I got the lock strip all popped out but the outer edge (outside the trim that took all the weather and sun) is pretty stiff. Maybe get it out and offer it on Ebay- Rare, vintage, almost NOS!

Save it. Repro's do not fit very well on te bottom where it lays on the dash board. If you use a repro make sure you trim off all the moulding [Edited by Moparts - Family Friendly Site - Keep it clean] and extra rubber from the mold or it will not fit right.
