i just ordered my R/T stripe kit for my car, i have studied and talked to some people on how to install. i know the best thing is to keep it wet with soap & water and to take masking tape to mark off where it goes.

can you guys give me some tricks and some do's and do nots? a fellow member has emailed me the factory specs on it, i know it is 4 5/8" from the rear of the decklid and the stripe must align with the indention of the bumper on the quarter.

this is the last thing to finish up the 4 1/2 year restoration.

My recomendations:

1. Buy a brand new plastic bondo spreader to smooth out air bubbles
2. Measure more that twice-cut once
3. Take plenty of time
4. Remember to wrap the stripe under the trunk lid and tuck it down into the trunk gutter
5. Remove any wax from the paint where the stripe will be
6. Pull the paper off of the stripe slowly and at a sharp angle in line with the stripe to avoid pulling the stripe up
7. Tiny bubbles that just wont go away can be poked with a needle to allow them to flatten out

Good luck!

Did you do the vinyl top yourself? I have a '68 Charger that will need a vinyl top soon. How bad a job is it?

I use 3 drops of dawn dish soap (or any fancy smelling dish soap your wives may have, i wont judge here) per 24oz spray bottle of water. Provides the best amount of slide/stick for the decal. When your happy with where its placed, start squeegeeing out the liquid and air from the middle, outwards. Or if you have measurements, make an L shaped template with 1/2" masking tape and again, once your happy with the placement, start squeegeeing out the air and water from one end and work to the other using the template to ensure correct placement based on your measents. Hope this helps. This method has always worked for me.

yes i put the vinyl top on myself, in fact i built my car in my 2car garage in the middle of a subdivision, took me 4 1/2years and maxing out around 3 credit cards,

the main thing with the top is the measurement down the center of the of the top , and glueing down the center and working out from the center on each side, taking your time and rolling out the bubbles , i used a vinyl floor hand roller to roll out the top

it was hard as heck, it is off about 1/2, the reproduction stripe is about 1/2" off, however, i made it work, it is not a show queen but the every day person will not even see it

Looks great. I just replaced the side stripe on my Challenger. First time I ever attempted this myself. I think it was pretty easy to do, time consuming but not to bad. It was just like putting on a giant sticker. I am more than pleased with the results.
