wow, that seems heavy...last time I was at the track, the scales weren't up....but my car alone was ~3200# last time I weighed it, full bench seat interior, AAR bolt on hood, rest is steel. Aluminum rad aluminum manual steering box aluminum master cylinder denso alternator (lighter and better) mini starter not sure how much you want to "hack" it up remove heater remove radio/speaker scrape black seam sealer off floors glass fenders/hood remove back seat/carpet I always wanted to replace my pot metal front fender caps with the fiberglass ones used on some factory cars...why someone doesn't repop these in fiberglass...I don't know http://www.hotrod.com/howto/113_0310_weight_reduction/viewall.htmllet me know how you make out...I'm after some weight loss/power gain mods this winter as well

I finally got my Dart going and weighed it at the track. 3550 race ready. I have a glass front bumper and aluminum bumper brackets, otherwise its all steel. The interior has a set of race buckets, otherwise thats all original. Also has aluminum wheels. What would be my best bang for the buck to reduce weight. I'd like to lose about 300 lbs on it over the winter. Thanks for any input, Clint
That seems pretty heavy for that car. Sure the scales are accurate? My '67 Satellite with full interior, all steel, steel wheels, full exhaust and iron heads weighs only 90 pounds more - 3640.

Hey Clint, watched you make a pass, and a 9.38 ET is getten down the road! Clints Dart has a procharged 408 small block. Very nice ride, and a real sleeper when you see it pull to the line. The back seat and brakes are about all I would do. If you do remove the back seats you could take the window crank mechanisms out and use a solid strut to hold the glass up. Same with the passenger window, but I would leave the drivers window stock. If you run Caltracs, there must be a lot of weight there. Ladder bars are light. Spendy, but also a suspension upgrade. They may be a bit harsh for the street if you street drive it though. Someone should chime in with the weight difference, I don't know how much there is.

I always wanted to replace my pot metal front fender caps with the fiberglass ones used on some factory cars...why someone doesn't repop these in fiberglass...I don't know

I'm sure the scales are accurate. Like Greg said its a procharged 408, so it has an intercooler, meth tank, procharger, exhuast, full interior, basically a a stock bodied car with full interior. I've done the alum. rad, alum. steering box, alum. m/c, and mini starter. I'm running a altenator off a 90's Chevy pick-up so I don't have to charge between runs. I don't want to hack it up but if I can do stuff thats not obvious in apperance I will.
Greg, I am running Caltracs, I can't run ladder bars becuase of the class I want to run in, it has to have factory type suspension. The best I got last weekend was a 9.50@144.5, I'm still working on getting it to hook off the line. Hopefully by Muscle car weekend I'll have new shocks for it.
I will have to put aftermarket disks on it on all four corners this winter. I'm just looking for ideas as to the most cost effective way to lose weight this winter.

What the others have said plus the door impact beams
only some 71 had that!! I have own 3 71 none had the beam in the doors!! unless someone changed them to earlier year? never had a dart that weight as much as he has, The last dart I had was 3175 all the others where in that range, even a demon was 3170 w driver! full street car w a big block so I will think the scales are dade on the heavy side,

Hi Clint. Hope to see it run at Muscle car shootout! Sounds like its going to be a screamer! I would leave it in street trim. Looks so nice right now. I have been gutting mine out a bit.

Brake disks, hubs and calipers have a lot of weight.
R.
I agree, I went from factory big bolt disks and spindle to aerospace front brakes and 9in spindle and dropped 52 lbs exactly on my dart.

Het Matt, hows it going? Are you going to be running down there? How about Phil? What have you been doing with your car?
