Right now the car has power steering pump, and power steering gear box, no hoses.
Don't know for certain, but it sounded as if the power steering went out.
Can I just find a manual gear box?"l

The short answer is yes, but I'm sure that someone with more knowledge will chime in shortly.

Welcome to the board, Toad.

You may have to get an adapter, because I believe the column is shorter for power steering. If you can find the gear box and column from a manual steering B-body, that would be ideal.
