It was a busy day so I'll have a few questions - 73 Roadrunner - I can see a couple ways the trans could be released from it's rear mounts - what's the preferred (refer to the colored arrows) for this 340/727 combo ?

raise a jack till it just touches/supports the trans. Take out the horizontle bolt/nut (blue) then the 2 vertical bolts (yellow) then the mt is free. Then remove the crossmember or if it's welded in solid??? pull the eng/trans forward thru it till it clears

I thought it would be either/or not both as either would release it completely ?

OK now I see the crossmember is not welded. Support the trans a hair then the blue then the yellow then the trans mount falls out then the red bolts then the crossmember is free & take it out & you're free and clear with the jack supporting the trans on the end

If you're not going to rebuild the trans and are going to reinsall it just leave the yellow bolts in to give something for the trans to rest on.

The blue bolt alone will release the trans completely and allow it to go forward up and out - but so will just removing the yellow - and of course releasing the red (crossmember) will free it as well, but all of them would simply be dismantling the assembly which doesn't seem necessary - I'm open to suggestions and appreciate all input -

I'm assuming you are pulling the eng/trans together. removing all the bolts/mt/crossmember frees up ALOT of room which you will need (trust me) and the pictured bolts are very easy to remove

Loosen the yellow bolts, jack the trans up a little bit and then remove the yellow bolts all the way and then remove the red bolts and take the crossmeber down and out of the way, let the trans. down and away you go Don't forget to either put a trans yoke back in the tailshaft housing or drain the trans. all the way, completely, before lowering the tailshaft down very far away from straight and level in the car I have learned that the hard way several times, I'm a slow learner on some things

I've done either/or on my rigs. I would support the trans and then drop the two yellow bolts out. then drop the crossmember.

Are you planning on removing the forward t-bar crossmember?

Removing the torsion bar cross member would give you alot more room as trans would drop freely - but bigger job and not something to do just to help with removal and no plan to rebuild LCA's, etc. Also with the trans crossmember attached -your probably going to fight with the dual exhaust unless you can drop them to the floor (?)
