I need help picking a good street cam for my 37 Dodge with a Magnum 360 with eldebrock airgap manifold an eldebrock 750, block hugger headers and 3.73 gears in the rear. Right now I have a stock converter but would be willing to upgrade to a higher street style converter. Also I heard the stock valve springs in these aren't the greatest is that true?

how fast do you want to go? how mild or wild do you want it? regrinding the stocker with Bullet Cams' HR259/316 lobe for both intake and exhaust was very satisfying in my mag headed 318, while still returning 12-13" vaccuum at idle. I used Hughes #1110 springs with some junkyard 2.2L retainers with it.

if you want wilder on a budget, talk to Tim at Bullet as to what they can fit on the stock core, or look at hughes'
1418AL or 1828AL regrinds

I'm happy with my Hughes whiplash cam for a magnum motor. 222/228 @ .050. .544 lift, 106lsa

M1 single plane EFI intake, edelbrock shirty headers and SCT to reprogram the engine tune on the stock EFI system

Made 285hp/325tq to the wheels. Idles at about 9-10" though. My power brakes work fine still, I just can't pump them a lot at idle, but when driving its no problem. Even at first start up and moving it around the garage/driveway the brakes are fine.

Idle sounds nice, and the torque curve was pretty flat. Fell off above 5500 rpm, which is about perfect for the street, but with better heads, it should pull to 6000 easy.

Was hoping to find a cam that I could use the stock springs in the magnum heads that would give me a little more performance than the stock cam.

not gonna happen. the stock springs are BARELY adequate for a stock cam, and will run into coil bind at .500 lift. if you're on that much of a budget, then look at one of the "R/T +10" cams. they're only going to give you a tad bit more hp over a stock magnum truck engine, and can be put into an EFI truck running the JTEC computer without doing any computer tuning. --which tells you that they are VERY mild cams!

but if it was my engine, I wouldn't re-use the stock springs. valve springs are cheap. do it right, do it once.

Thanks, I kind of figured that. Probably gonna look for a set of EB heads with springs then over the winter while the car is away.

the hughes springs/retainers will cost you about $150....

the stock springs are less than 90 lb/in rate IIRC. I can compress them in my hand some, and my old '96 ram truck would float the valves by about 5200 RPM with the stock cam (had the MP computer which removed the rev limiter)
