I have heard of people using epoxy primer. On a side note could you share the specs on your rotessire? Wall thickness and sizes? I need to build one

Did you just remove the undercoating? Or sandblast as well? If there is bare metal showing if use epoxy primer. If the original epoxy primer is still present and in good shape you could just scuff and spray high build on it.

Yes, and then spray the entire thing with undercoating.

I know it's the Resto forum but still...epoxy the under side, seam seal, high build primer, color, clear. Or for a driver, epoxy prime, seam seal, and undercoat. I like 3m body Schulz sprayed about 12-14 inches away. Leaves a nice even texture and overspray on the rockers for a factory appearing look. If you want it a little heavier like OEM try 8inches or so, just watch how fast your moving your arm.
Not saying the "correct" factory primer color and texture doesn't have it's place..it does..but more so on rare 100pt restos. If you plan on driving it I dont see much sense in going that far in duplicating the OEM process. Not for the underside at least.

If you are going to paint the bare underside metal with something, why not use a finish paint that appears like dull grey primer but performs similar to exterior paint. There are some industrial greys out there.
The factory appearing undercoating that Resto Rick and Baldeson sells looks very correct, but it really is durable. Seems to perform and function better or as well as the 3M stuff. Works just as well on 100pt resto or Street Rod.
100pt resto or not, about the same effort.

Is your car an LA Plant car? If it is than the dip coating was not the typical medium grey color, it was a very dark, nearly black, shade of grey.
Its a Hamtramack built car, it looks to be a industrial gray under the undercoating with drips included.
