Using 15x7 cop car rims on my car (using '70 Rallye centers and trim rings).

I was thinking 245/60/15 fronts and 255/60/15 rears.

The car will be about 1.5" lower than stock.

Anyone?

275's aren't too wide for the 15x7 cop car rims?

A bunch of people will tell you that a 275/60 is too wide for a 7 inch wheel, but i have run them for 10 years on 7 inch ralleys on a 73 RR. They look and drive fine. I agree that an 8 to 10 inch wheel would be better suited, but these are what i had and a smaller tire looks wimpy on a B body. If you want something narrower, go with a 70 series so at least you have some height to fill the wheel opening.

Would a 275/60 even fit properly on a 10" rim? 10" is a wide rim and a 275/60 isn't that wide of a tire. I've run 275/60's on a 7" rim for years. No problems, no weird tread wear, get a clean patch of rubber when I

Go 225 or 235/70 on the front. I just mounted up some 245/60's on my 69 GTX front and not real keen with it. For the rear, go for the 275/60's.

Thanks! As usual with me, life gets in the way with my project. This time, hopefully, I'll get it done finally.

So the general consensus is 235/70 front and 275/60 for the rears

Some BFG's will be on order today or tomorrow from tirerack.

I once tried mounting a 235-70-15 on a 15x7 rally on my 70 Road Runner and it was too big in diameter and rubbed the fender at the front of the wheel opening. Do you think a 235-70-15 would fit without rubbing if maybe a 6" wide wheel or a 15x7 wheel with different rear backspacing than that of a factory rally were used?

i run them on a 10" rim, no problems. only issue is that i can't get a 295 under there, as the 10" rim balloons out the sidewall. it doesn't look bad, and isn't noticeable, but it is out far enough on the 10" rim that a 295 won't go.

i recently ran into a 70 with 275/60's on an 8" rim, and the difference in room under there was amazing. i'm going to go with a 295/55 on an 8" rim, and that should get me the extra tire under there.

what about a 255/60/15 front and 275/60/15 rear? That's about a 27.5" front and near 28" rear I think...

Just for reference, here's a side shot of my car with a 235/60 up front and a 275/60 out back. I don't think I'd want to go up much in diameter on the front tire.

I think your going to have a hard time getting a 275-60-15 on an 8" rim under the car if the chassis is lowered and not have it rub,
UNLESS you play with the offset of the wheel.

Personally if the car is lowered I would stay witha 255 on a 7" rim

jpg[/image]The ragtop has 255/60-15 on all 4. The other two had 235/70-15 15x7 front and 275/60-15 rear.

275 stands for 275mm tread width or 10.82" so yes, it'll fit on an 10" rim. Recommended rim size is 7.5" - 9.5" so 8" rims are the right choice but obviously 7" or 10" still works.
