Tore down the motor and getting into the rebuild and the mopar manual says two different sizes of bearing available for this car. 0.025mm (0.001in.) and 0.250 mm (0.010in.) undersize. So I get the plastigage that is for the .001-.003 and when I check the clearance range with the new bearing (standard 0.001in.) and the cap back on and torqued it does not even flatten the plastigage on the crank. This seems to indicate to me that the correct bearing for my car will be the 0.250 mm (0.010in.) undersize. I tried to find the large plastigage (yellow) that would be correct to check the undersized bearing and no one seems to have it around here.

I think I am doing it all correctly and just wanted another opinion or two.

Any advice you can offer will be great.

Craig

The specified clearance is the same regardless of what undersize you have. If you are shooting for 0.001 nominal clearance with a standard journal, a 0.010 journal with the correct bearing insert will also have 0.001 nominal clearance. Sounds to me like you need a different set of bearings with the correct undersize. Just to be sure, if you have a micrometer check your journal size. If the price of a micrometer scares you, a digital caliper will get you close enough for what you are doing. Good luck.
