So I started to hook things up today. I have a weird issue now. When I hooked the battery up my horn started to go off. I couldn't figure it out quickly, so I just unplugged the horn. I hooked the battery up again and did a few other things around the house. I came back to it about 3 hrs later and noticed that my tail lights had been on the whole time.

So where the heck do I look? I'm sure its a ground issue, but where at?

Steve it sounds like something is grounding your horn relay,I would unplug the connector at the column and see if the horn stays off.
The brake light switch is an easy fix,you might even find one out at the show in Wooster today
I was thinking of heading over there in a little while.

Hey Gus. I wanted to go down, but I never made it. Maybe next year.

Anyways, the issue is the brake lights. They're on constantly. I ended up pulling the switch off of the pedals. The couple times I drove it today I just turned on my parking lights so I'd at least have some sort of lights back there. This may be related, but I don't have any marker lights either, at all 4 corners. My back ups arent hooked up, so I cant tell about them.

I put on a Grant wheel last night. I thought I read the directions pretty good, but when I hooked up the battery the horn started to blow. I ended up just unhooking it at the horn relay. The funny thing is that I first tried to unhook the switch in the column. That didn't work. Even with the switch unhooked, the horn was still blowing.

The other issue I have right now is my Sun Pro tach. With the parking lights on, the back light comes on, but the tach doesn't register anything. Ive gotta have some sort of issue in the wiring in the column I'd think for all of this stuff not to work, right? Im lost when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks guys.

Oh yeah, one more issue..... Brand new sending unit, and the gauge still reads 1/2 on a full tank. This is the third unit Ive tried. I'm wondering now if it isn't the gauge that isn't right..??

I kinda expected this problem though...

Thanks for the link. I'll check into it, but honestly, this is like reading ancient hieroglyphics to me.

My guess is the horn and brake lite symptoms are related as they are both running through the steering column. I am guessing some thing is grounded that should not be and or vica versa.
Basicaly something does not have a ground so it back feeds through a power supply and powers the horn.
The brakes wiring is conected through the turn signals as they use the same filimant in the bulb.

I have mechanical Aptitude.
I can screw up anything.

I was looking in a 67 manual at the bulkhead connector and I see the horn and turn signals are in the same connector.
You may want to inspect the bulkhead closely.
When you ground the fuel sender wire does it go all the way to full?

Ok. Any idea where at on the bulkhead these connections are at?

Also, how exactly do I ground the fuel gauge?

The three large connectors plugged in on the drivers side of the firewall.
On the fuel sender there is one connector, unplug the wire and hook it up to a good ground with a jumper lead. The fuel gauge should rise to the top as soon as you turn the key on.

Ok. I just didnt know which one of those connections in the bulkhead is what im looking for. I cant find a diagram showing what each one of those connections is.

I'll try the gauge later on as well.

Thanks!
