Thinking of getting some procar sportsman seats or the summit sport seats. Can these be run with a 5 point harness with the crotch belt over the front or do i need a seat with dedicated holes for the side and crotch straps for NHRA?

Anyone with these seats feel free to chime in with input and such.

The rules do not say that any seat has to have dedicated slots for the seat belts. My seat(similar to a A-100) doesn't and I've never had any problems. The key thing is to have the seat belts anchored correctly.

I agree with Chris, never had a problem in Tech, no holes in my seat (A-100 style, low-10-sec car).

Well, it might pass tech, but you just defeated the reason for a crotch belt - and the lap belt will only keep you in the "general vacinity". If you are going to install a 5 point system, be serious about it. JMO.

I agree to a point. The A-100 seats are considered O.E.M. and not after- market, and don't require the holes due to the way thier made (short sided) and low back. However, N.H.R.A. did reguire me to slot the cushion for the crotch strap. (3 different tech. guys @ 3 different tracks ) even though the rule book clearly stated that the submarine belt could route in front of the cushion with an O.E.M.seat.
I also added a bar to the cross bar of the main hoop to prevent the shoulder straps from spreading (the reason for the slots in a high back seat) Mid 9 sec. '68 NSS Clone.

So the shoulder harnesses both pull the lap belt up into the soft venerable stomach area as the shoulder harnesses stretch out/forward during a sudden stop. The crotch belt needs to firmly keep the lap belt down and close to the hips, NOT to prevent submarining, unless we are talking about reclined/laydown open wheel cars. If you want to experiment, have your estate let us know how it works out.

Ain't no way I'm gonna run with a crotch strap thats not tight and give my boys a running start at it.
I actually remember seeing a race at Bowling Green, Ky years ago (UDRA, I think?), where the driver always did his burn out with the belts on, but loose, so he could twist around to see to back up, then tightened the belts before staging. During the burn out the throttle got hung and he got crossed up and hit the big diamond shaped concrete thing that the tree sits on and seperates the two lanes. They had to take him out of the car on a stretcher. The car was from up north somewhere, maybe called the "Humping Padre" ?, I'm not sure, been a long time. I do remember that Jeff Wick was there with the "Matchmaker" Daytona.
Bottom line, if you're gonna go to the trouble to put them in, install and use them correctly.

You guys are completely right about the safety aspect of putting the anti sub belt around the front. I started thinking about it more and the harness in the car I have been doing SCCA in, and did a little more research.
My immediate thoughts always seem to be the laziest and cheapest. I want a sliding and tilting seat thats easy to get in and out for a 95% street car. Wanting your cake and eat it too, most always a compromise for both.

I know Cobreau will pit a "fifth slot" in there non fixed back seats for a bit more $. I might try doing this on these cheap suckers.

I suppose bolting in a 5 point with this type seat and then swapping in a bare bones kirkley for track day would work fine.
