Did a 406" SB for my '74 Duster (A/C, 3.21 gear, stock converter, iron heads, 9:1, street car) using an Engle hyd flat-tappet with 214/224 @ .050 and .470/.504 lift. Ran great, tons of torque, great throttle response (T-quad), 17MPG @ 70, and sounded quite healthy.

First timmer in this section. I'm gonna purchase a 408pair short block from muscle motors. I want a stupid fast street truck, 3800 lbs. I have j heads that I'm gonna send to get some work done on but my dilemma is cam selection. Being that it's a truck i need lots of torque. Also what stall converter/gears/carb?
If you want stupid fast your using the wrong heads... plenty of different heads will make way more power... then get the heads ported and have the cam picked based on the head flow and lift
