Keep in mind my knowledge of A/C systems is limited.

I am working on a 2007 PT Cruiser. the cooling fan comes on when the engine reaches temp but when the A/C is turned on the condenser gets very hot, the gauge my friend has hooked up to the discharge side goes to 350 and the fan doesn't come on, and the relief valve opens on the compressor.
I swapped fan relays and they are both good.I hooked a jumper to the fan and ran the A/C and the condensor remained cool, the gauge never went past 150 and my friend was able to charge the system making up for what was lost from the relief opening.

I think I read that the fan should come on at 248 degrees but I am not sure. Is there a sensor that sends a signal to the PCM telling it the temp of the A/C discharge? I have a Snap On scan tool but it is the brick style and I have a CAN connector with a a global cartridge so my capabilities are limited.

Is there anything I can check so I might be able to fix this before having to send him to the dealer? thanks.
