I used the search function and came up with very little newer info on this subject. I'm putting together a 360 Magnum out of a '97 for my '75 4x4. I'm at the point where I need to make a decision on an intake. I want to retain good low end,so I'm thinking dual plane. MP and Edlebrocks are up towards the $300 range and that isn't going to happen. There are some off brands(Chinese I assume) that are $125-$200. I've heard they have some issues sealing. That about covers my new options. I haven't found much for used as I figure there just are a ton out there to begin with and what is out there is in use.

My other options are possible because I have access to a Bridgeport, tig, and a mad scientist named Bob Egli. The first is to redrill the heads and used an LA intake. Plenty of those used,I think I even have an old OFFY 360. My other option is to mill the top of the factory EFI manifold and weld a carb plenum/plate into it. Honestly,as far fetched as that idea is I like it the best. I think the long runners would give me some good bottom end and it would definetly be different. I like different. The biggest downfall to either of these ideas is that once I'm done redrilling the heads there is no going back, not that I would need to,I just like options. And if we build the EFI into carburated and it didn't work I'd be pulling the top end back off the drill the heads.

Any ideas?

The runners of the beer barrel are the corks in the system, so retaining them makes little sense.

You can redrill the heads OR change the angle of the bolt holes in the intake, that will get you best of both worlds.

The beer barrel makes lots of low end torque but its a "dry flow" manifold for EFI. I don't think there is a path for liquid fuel and it wouldn't work with a carb.

I haven't done it but I believe you can "oval out" the holes on an LA to fit it to a Magnum. That may be an option.

Ya there is an M1 but it's up around 3 hundred. Money is an object in my world and I can't justify spending that kind of money on an intake for a 4x4. I have a mental cap that is around 150,but I'd prefer the 80-100 dollar range. I've been looking at the heads and I think I can drill them for LA and still retain the Magnum holes as well. That way I can do either. I am going to convert the EFI manifold and see how it works. I have all the stuff to do it so I might as well give it a shot.

Professional Products Crosswinds intake is the best bet if you're using all your original pulleys & brackets as well as original belts& hoses
I've used 6 of their intakes so far & had no problems with sealing.
The only way the Edelbrock fits without modifying or custom hoses is to use the serpentine drive on the Mag motor
You just use hoses for a 92-93 truck
This requires a electric fuel pump to do this
It also costs at least $200 more than using the Crosswinds
Which ever one you use buy the Bouchillion kickdown kit & throttle cable bracket it is money well spent & will take out the guesswork on your trans if you have a auto

you could have the heads re-drilled to accept the LA intakes. it allows you to still use the magnum threads if you go back to a magnum intake later

For the labor involved to red rill the heads you can buy the Crosswinds intake
A machinist is going to get at least $100 just to setup to do the job and then the labor to drill & tap the holes not including head gaskets & most won't work with oiily parts

Thanks for all the input!! Machining costs are a non-issue for me. A close friend has a Bridgeport in his shop at his house.

To jump in on this post... So, if you go with the Crosswinds intake on the Magnum engine, you can run the regular V-belt setup instead of the serp belt? I read somewhere you just need to buy an earlier water pump for the Magnum engine to run a V-belt setup. True? Obviously, you'd have to use the pulleys and such off a V-belt motor, too. Any other issues or anything?

Looking to carb a Magnum 360, but want to run V-belts instead of the serp belt. Oh, I'd be running A/C, too, if that matters.

Here's a Crosswinds you can use only the RV2 compressor & brackets with it the later V belt stuff will work but you can't use the A/C stuff because of the thermostat location

You can use all the RV2 stuff every last nut bolt & bracket.
