Just came to mind reading the tread. I have always ran a start retard. The 7AL3 was fixed at 25 degree retard which was too much and I had to do something else. The 7531 allows you to adjust the start retard. Retard 10-15 degrees and it works great. Have had up to 17.5:1 compression and ran on 12 volts for a while like that. Then went to 16 volts. Have hurt a starter with the poorly made JW bell but knock on wood never the flywheel.

i agree I have the new pro grid and am pulling out 11 degrees till 500 rpm so motor has 25 degrees cranking and 36 running. kinda cool racepak shows cranking rpm at 286 with 16v battery.

just got my flexplate in and all back together,starts nicer--esier,i think.going to the track thursday,i drove it around the plat,its nice cruisin around in a 1100 hp car.
