Took the satellite to the track tonight for test and tune made about 6 passes decided to run the valves at the end because we hadnt for awhile and both valves on #7,and #8 were very tight. Im talking like the spring was 1/4 of the way compressed when it should have had lash. So I loosened them up and the adjuster bolt was up way too far and the pushrod fell out while doing my 1/4 turns on the crank. I know I was adj them right because all the other cylinders were fine on both exhaust and intake. It was weird both intake and exhaust on #7 and #8 were like this. Any ideas what would cause this? It cant be a lobe off the cam because I would think it would be the opposite problem.

Thanks guys!

Sounds like you where trying to adjust them with the valves opened Describe the method you use to adjust your valves

I think you're doing something wrong. There's no way you're "out of adjustment" by that much. You said "1/4 turn of the crank"; You typically want to make adjustments @ 1/2 turns of the crank starting @ TDC.

I was doing it by one of those mopar performance charts you stick to your firewall and every single valve adjuster was dead on except both the intake and the exhaust on cylinders 7 amd 8 and they were way tight. I dont know if I have a valve guide seizing or a lifter bore that is rough or what just was hoping someone else had ran into the problem before.

Thanks

Take the rocker shaft off and place a straight edge across the valve tips. Sounds like you may have tuliped the valves from too much heat.
If they are that far gone you should be able to see it with just your eyes, looking across the tips.

I would think you messed up on the adjustment... if
you had a guide hanging up that bad.. you would have
blown up by now(valves crashing the pistons)... JMO

Im gonna try and run them again today you never know with it being at the track and it always seems like you forget something when your doing stuff at the track so I could have messed them up. If that dont pan out I am gonna take the rocker shafts off and try and inspect the valves and maybe turn the crank over a bit and use the pushrods to watch those back 4 lifters.
Thanks again

I just did mine on the 64..Yes,it is easy to get distracted! Every time my garge door is open, someone will show up to see what is going on or to raid my beer refrigerator! Lonemopar gave me a little tip on running valves...Everytime you have one done, put a mark on it with a sharpie..That really helps to let you know what is done! Good luck!

Thats why I do the open/closed method.. if someone
shows up I just say give me a few minutes so I can
finish that side

Did it run ok before the track valve adjustment?

Did you have help and someone confused intake and exhaust?

Thats a good idea with marking the ones you have done. What are the rules with adjusting hot vs cold? If they are that far off I really dont wanna run it anymore than I have too.

I think that on aluminum heads and an iron block,it is .004-.006 tighter than iron heads on an iron block...But I could be wrong...

.004 works fine... I run a tighter lash than the spec
card says... I dont like the big lash so I take out
.010 extra

The way I've always done it (owned 2 solid lifter motors with no problems) is to start at TDC,and make 4 passes rotating 180 degrees between each pass. 180 degrees is half of a rotation of the crank.

I do one cyl at a time (in any order it doesn't matter)
When the exh valve STARTS to open-set that cyl's intake
Rotate that cyl- when that "just set" intake opens fully and
JUST starts to close- set that exh
