Is this a Chrome race ECU or just a factory ECU ?
No part numbers on it,has 4 pins,
Trying to get info. thinking it may be a 1978 red express truck box.
Chrysler decal looks odd for race unit?
Thanks

I don't see any picture attached, but the Mopar Race Chrome ECU has a black heat sink. A plain old low performance chrome ECU may have a blue or gold heat sink.

It looks like the chrome box unless its a knock off...
the voltage at the coil is reduced going through the
ballast... I dont recall the voltage off hand but I
think its 8 volt... maybe some one can answer that

Thanks,
I have a .25 ohm ballast and have about 9 volts now
before had 1.5 ohm and had 6.3 volts.

If I remember right the .25 ohm is for the gold box
but not sure if its needed for the chrome(I just dont
remember)
EDIT
Looking at my parts book its just needed if you run
the P3690560, P4876832, P4876833 coil... it will work
with any box other than the orange box and production box

"Race" ECU's all had 5 pins with one not used.
I never saw one-chrome or gold with any decal on it.

That is not the race box. It is a chrome replacement box.

Wow! If it is a stock box it's been on there 30 years
I have gone 10.99 at 124 with that box!!
I could have been quicker with a race box!!

Nope,....here is a MP chrome,FBO,and a Rev N Nator.
I have two chromes and two orange boxes that all have 4 pins. The harnesses all have 5 wires for the early 5 wire boxes but leave the 5th wire unattatched.

I believe the 5-pin boxes were for prodution when they went to the dual side ballast. I had orange and gold boxes that were only 4-pin. Al my regular production boxes are 5-pin.

But as always with Ma Mopar, never say never--there always seems to be exceptions to the rules.

I think I see a dyno setup in the pic.
Did you do a comparison with the boxes? If you did, what did you find?

As far as I can tell a ecu is an ecu. the one in my car has nothing at all on it to identify it. It goes to 7000 rpm no problem. Ive used many "stock" ecus with the same results.

Yes, I have done tons of testing with several boxes.
The earlier made Orange box(before people had issues with them) runs pretty similar to the current Chrome boxes.
I have a few different stock replacement boxes, one that will pull high rpm's. But it gave up a bunch of power through the mid range.
When a engine reaches it torque peak, the cylinder pressure can make it really hard to light off a mixture. If the ignition is not strong enough,it loses power.
I ahve learned more about Mopar boxes than I ever thought I would want to know.
I used to run them on bracket cars and always thought if you had a decent spark and set your total timing, there was nothing to be gained. The more I learn, the more I realize that old theories are just that, old theroies.

I was just over on ebay looking at them. Not much info but they have a hirev and a hirev 7500. They look like a LX100 and LX101,respectively. That is purely heresay on my part, but several guys like the Standard ignition stuff.
