currently Cam is a COmp XE275HL 231/237 @ .050", .525"/.525

Street and strip built by RyanJ for his B-body auto. I have been running it in my 70 Duster stick car, manual brakes the last 6 season. Its a 410 with 9.7:1 Stage 2 Eddy heads . Just looking for the cam that will give me peak performance for my application being lighter car, 4 speed, and streetability in mind. Best is 7.49 @ 93 mph in the 1/8 through mufflers. Looking for a little more.

This oughta be good!

I had the same comp 275hl cam in my 408. When a lifter went bad I swapped in a MP .557" solid cam. The comp stick definitely had gobs more torque on the bottom but ran out of steam earlier. The car is easier to start and drive with the overlap delivering a softer bottom.

I have a cast crank and unported eddys so I'm not looking for more than 450hp at the crank. I think you'll have a better match head flow and shortblock wise with a bigger cam compared to my setup. A lot of folks here will recommend the ultradyne and custom grinds. As funny as it sounds I like the low maintainance of the solid- Im used to running the valves from years of messing with slant sixes. Also my solid purpleshaft has less noise than the comp hydro! I think it's the valves slamming shut that make the comp high lift hft cams so noisy.

I was curious how the 285hl or 295hl comp cam would run but the .557 didnt keep building hp past 5500 on the chassis dyno so like I said Im probably limited by my ootb heads.

Good luck and post up what you end up doing

I run a small solid roller in my 410 stroker, comp XR286R...good street manners with GOBS of torque. My engine has 1 more point compression (and I run a 727 trans), but the rest is the same. In street trim it runs 6.8's @ 99mph in the 1/8 (low 6.9's @ 98.5mph on hot summer days).

67 Barracuda street car, 408, e85, 1.38 60', 6.44 @105.9 in the 1/8 mile, 10.19 @130.5 in the 1/4...so far....

This is what I use alot in similar apps...245-251 @.050, 107lca straight up. Lift is around 560 with 1.5 rockers but I'd recommend more ratio.

What I am seeng with the cam teting I am currently doing is,to keep an eye on exhaust lobe versus intake lobe splits.
It depends on how good the exhaust flow actually is in your heads, and the exhaust system you are running.
Most catalog cams have too much exhaust lobe on them, assuming a poor flowing exhaust to intake flow.
Brian's suggestion looks good to me,but several cam grinders I have talked to always suggest around 8-10 degrees split no matter what heads and exhaust you have.

Thanks for all the imput. I also talked to RyanJ he recommends Solid Flat tappet route for my set up. Comp XS282S 244/252 @ 50 520/540 Lift. Centerline set at 106*. Going with the EDM hole Flat tappet Lifter for longevitiy. Maybe only have to change my pushrods. He is thinking at least a 25hp gain.

Hughes also speced out the cam for my stroker 410.I run a solid flat tappet 276 280 @ 50 631 lift, ground on a 106. My car is 3130 #s with driver and has ran 10.06 @ 131. The compression is 11.4 to 1. I shift at 6600 and hit the traps at 6900 rpm.
