Hello fellow Chyrsler enthusiasts.
If someone has an original 70 Dodge Challenger convertible with the collapsible spare, I have a question.

I have all the hardware for the trunk area , but it does not look like I have any attachment for the spare to the floor. What does the floor area look like for the attachment.

Part of my floor area was replaced.
If any one could send me a close up photo of the center floor area, that would be Great.

Thank You!

From what I remember, there was a raised piece of metal almost like a I beam or something like that which the threaded rod attached to. Unfortunately, the chally vert is in my parents garage about 40 minutes away from me. I can try and get a pic the next time im over there though.

Thanks! I have a feeling I may have to add that piece.
That's why a picture would be great. Waiting on a photo, so I can proceed, so when and if I would greatly appreciate it!

Thank You Very Much,
Looks like it may be a little more difficult than I thought.

This thread should work, but if any one has closer pic, thanks.

This forum is Great!

maybe I am wrong but didn't the hard tops use the same mounting bracket as the convertibles? Just that the convertibles used the different hole.

Nope, vert is different, it doesn't have the rise built into it, it stays on the lower floor area.... But FWIW I made mine.... I cut up a couple brackets out of parts cars to get the section where the actual bolt goes & I made the section that connects them.. A little welding, a little grinding & there ya go...

Hello,
I may be getting closer to the solution.

Just ran across several vendors offering the convertible weld-in bracket.
521 restorations Ft Collions CO
Mopar Metal Vancouver WA
Aut Metal Direct GA

They are all closed on Sat., but anyone here verify these suppliers?

Thanks Again !!

AMD is a board supporter & actually is the manufacturer... Didn't know they were making that part.... Won't help me, I made mine 18 years ago....

Confirmed, it's available... Lucky you!!

Thank You for the link.

A couple of good pictures there. I have located the bracket through AMD. Does anyone have a closer photo of the attachment method. It looks like there are tack welds in one of the photos. Another photo looks like seam sealer was used.
Just want to make it right, if I'm going to do it!
Thanks

Thank You for the pictures. The light is kind of dark. How far from the edge of bracket to the crease in floor under convertible well? Looks like about 1/2 inch or so.

Also,
It is hard to see, but is the piece tack welded in several spots?
How many spots? Is there any look of original seam sealer or just welded on?

Sorry for the questions, But I just want to get it correct looking?
Mike

I will look tomorrow. It originally would have been spot welded in.

Thank You Larry 4406,

Yes this does help, as it shows every part for the trunk area. I did not know about the " N " "anti rattler jack stowage.
Also, I notice there are two different ways of stowing the bumper hook. One has it on top, and the other has it under the tire.
Still wondering how the trunk bracket was welded on at bottom, and just how it it sits (location). I think the front tip sits about an inch from the bend where the trunk floor rises up under the top well.

Thank you very much for the diagram, this is very useful.
Mike

The convertible spare tire bracket is not usually spot welded - it is tack welded in place from the topside with a blob of weld every 1-1.5" or so.

At least for 1970

This is based on having a number of '70s, including a bracket that I removed along with part of the floorpan from a '70 'Cuda 340 convertible that was crashed/written off in 1973....

Thank you for the reply, that will help when we weld it down.

I appreciate all who replied to my question,
