I put a 383 in my Coronet and finally got the steering gear and pump hooked up. When I run the car the steering goes all the way to the right on it's own.
How do i fix this.
fix this, get the brakes bled/adjusted then it's finally time to drive it.
I started this transplant before Christmas. Hard to find enough time with kids and regular life getting in the way.

a buddy if mine had the same thing happen last week. I think you have to beat on the valve (top of pump) and it should free up.

There's a plate on the top of the power steering box with two screws, you need to BARELY loosen them and slide it up (towards the rear of the car) or down (towards the front of the car) to correct that problem. I say barely because if you loosen them very much, you'll dump fluid everywhere.

I don't have a pic of it but someone will probably post one. If you do this with the front wheels up in the air and the engine running, you can see when you've fixed the problem, just be careful.

Your power steering control valve is either stuck or out of adjustment. Get the front wheels off the ground. The valve is on top of the steering gear box. Tap it with a small hammer and test by turning the wheels right and left. If this doesn't fix it loosen the 2 bolts just a small amount (just barely break them loose) and tap it with your hammer fore or aft and test again by turning to the right or left. When it turns with equal force both ways you have it correct. Hope this helps.

As mentioned, tap the valve , then adjust if needed. I want to stress that you need to be careful!!!
This is hydraulic pressure, make sure the car is secure on the stands, keep everything clear of the wheels and steering linkage, and make sure you keep away from the steering wheel when in the car (turning on the ignition)!!!!

The valve is aluminum,You need to be very carefull tapping it without loosening the bolts.
