Yes. You could get a 383 two or four bbl four speed in a 68 Coronet Deluxe, 440 or 500 model. No four speed behind the 318.

I'm going to look at a car this afternoon that is my buddys, his father died in an accident recently and informed me about this car that his father has owned since new and from what he says is in great original condition. At this time the info is a 68 coronet w/4 speed and a big engine. I was wondering without knowing if its an R/T or 500 was it possible to have a 4 speed behind any type of motor for that year?
Get the VIN and the first two letters will tell you the Model: WH = Coronet 440 WP = Coronet 500 WS = Coronet R/T
The 5th letter will tell you the engine: F = 318 G = 383 K = 440 J = 426 H = 383 hi performance
The R/T came stock with a 440 engine and the only option was the 426 Hemi.
According to my 68 manual the Coronet 500 would be the 318 engine. However as previously stated no 318 engine with the 4 speed.

Oh, brother!
No one has mentioned the 361-2, which was available with a 4-speed. If I'm off in that this engine was not available in 1968 (god, my brain is going . . .), then it's gotta be a 383-2, which was available with a 4-speed through 1968.

now if i'm correct the 62 is a 383 4 barrel. The car does need to be restored, drivers fender in front is a little damaged, and the passenger fender is wrinkled behind the wheel opening, interior need to be redone, paint is original but needs to be repainted. For being a 383 4 speed and all #s matching what is this thing worth?I was told buy the widow the day he came back from vietnam he went down and puchased this car new off the showroom floor.

Beautiful car. I would be all over it, good color, the way it is optioned it is basically an R/T with a 383, the trim level is the same 4 speed is a good plus.
Grab it before the word gets out.
