JoesMopar OP master J Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 2,782 USA	What is generally more important in determining when to change a timing belt: The age of the belt or the mileage on the belt? The car is a 2000 Intrepid with ~60,000 miles. Still runs great and is all original and in great shape, I was just curious as I'm planning on going through the car this fall.

JohnRR I Win Joined: Jan 2003 Posts: 75,047 U.S.S.A.	60k , change the belt . in this case I would go by both the age and mileage of the belt , the general consensus is 60k , change the belt , It could last longer but if it's an interference engine I would not chance it , nor wait till fall unless it's going to be parked till then .

buildanother I Live Here B Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 11,543 chicagoland,usa	Assuming it's the 3.2 or 3.5, every one I removed at 100-150k mi looked great still. They are a nice wide belt. I would consider putting a quality water pump on there at same time, whatever you decide.
