OK bear with me, Not Bashing Nor a rant but ... A buddy of mine decided to upgrade the topend of his engine from eddys to Indy, Did all his homework on what he wanted and as per advise and experience went with
Modern Cylinder Head for the whole package. Like a lot of guys he had to wait for them, no big deal. they arrived and after looking them over put the top end together N went to the track, the car ran ok but started smoking out the exhaust, Did a little checking and found several cracks in the pushrod galleys. Called Jeff and he said he seen a few of these happen.. send them back.We all know Jeff has had health issues so we put the eddys back on to make the races til we got the indy's back. Got them back and seen where they were sleeved in the pushrod galleys..Not what i would have been ok with and Jeff said they have been having Core Shift issues. Anyway put them back together and made 4 or 5 different events and its back..Now they'r leaking at the sleeves. Now my friend is in a corner, Try to send them back and have the same poor repair along with waiting. Have a local guy try to repair them? $3500 for heads and essentually they'r junk.
What would you guys do, My buddy's rightfully frustrated but doesn't want to deal with modern cylinder head.

There have been a few complaints lately about casting issues with Indy cylinder heads of late, it's a litle concerning. It will get to a stage where head shops will refuse to work on them or sell them (for fear of lost $$$ in subsequent repairs!)
Hopefully you guys get it sorted out!

Good luck on the refund after they have been ported and worked.

Your best bet is to be patient and talk with the Jeff. Sometimes you get a bad set of parts that are just bad no matter who worked them.

I don't see how you have any choice but to send them back to Modern with a discussion about repair options or possibly refund.

Your friend bought a known junky product via the method most likely to get a decent one, but it's still a crap shoot for basic quality and he got snake eyes.

B-1's(and non Indy Predators) are for racing anyways. S/F....Ken M

Like most said take them back to Jeff may be the best thing to do,but for piece of mind I would take them to another know good shop that repairs heads and get a 2nd opinion why there is a problem and a quote from them on what they will charge to repair them. And maybe who ever is to blame if anyone is will if nothing else help pay the bill.

A couple of years back I needed a valve job on a set of 440-1 heads and did not want to get in line and wait for service (Bad Mistake)so I took them to a Local shop who worked on every thing from tractors-trucks but they assured me they could do a 3 angle valve job as good as anyone else.To make a long story short after taking them back for the 2nd time and them telling me there was nothing wrong with the work they done I just had other engine problems,I took them to a machine shop that only works on race engines. After 3 weeks when I got my heads back and the repair bill for having to replace both intake & exhaust valves I took them and the bill back to Benning. The owner ask me why I brought them back and the Bill for having another machine shop work on them and I told him you can pay for the repairs now or I will sue you and you will pay for all my labor & all expensives. He wrote me a check and told me he hoped I could sleep good a night after doing him that way.

After thinking about what I went through with my heads,I think it would be Best for you to take your heads else where and have them fixed right and maybe who ever's fault it is will a least help out on the repair Bill,if not at least the heads will be usable.
