Anyone ever run into this? The fuel pump pushrod, a new comp cams rod, will not engage the cam. Seems to be blocked. I'll push up as far as it will go and rotate the engine there is no movement. Engine is a 440

Time to pull the timing cover and camshaft to see if it(camshaft) has a ecentric on it for the mechanical fuel pump rod

Do you have an old OEM piece you can compare with? At the very least put something in there and bottom it to get a feeling for how far it is going in before contacting cam and compare to the max depth your CC piece is going in to find out if the CC rod is bottoming against cam or in fact getting blocked/stuck.

How about using a long dowel the right diameter and seeing if it moves when you turn the engine? I had a friend with a 383 station wagon that stranded his family on a vacation when the push rod wore just enough to not pump gas any more. So if the dowel shows there is a lobe in the engine, then it's just a matter of getting a long enough pushrod. On the other hand how certain are you that the camshaft is turning?

OKAY, time for a Carter P4070 Street Pump. Mechanical pumps are for the birds.

I found out what is wrong. At first I hought the rod was not comming in contact with the cam because I could not feel any movement or resistance in the rod when the engine was turned over by hand. Using a borescope I discovered the rod is contacting the cam. The cam does not have a fuel pump lobe. Thanks all for your replies.

That's gotta be a first.

OKAY, for sure it's time for a Carter P4070 Street Pump. Mechanical pumps are for the birds. I've been running a Carter electric pump since 1984.

Mount the pump near the fuel pump and use the rubber insulators to dampen vibration. One wire from an ignition-controller source will run it.

Thanks. I was just curious about something. The lack of an eccentric sorta gave away it was a roller but I had to ask anyway.
