I purchased a set of 906 heads -
Mounted to my 440 1967 block
then after the intake manifold bolt holes don't line up.
Why is that? How can this be?

If so mill the intake. It'll make the intake only fit that eng but since the heads are on with that particular thickness of head gaskets you have no choice

try doubling up on the intake gaskets. if it's off by just a hair this can do the trick.

You may want to CC them heads to see how much milling they had!

Or check piston to valve clearance!

What are you useing for intake gaskets? The Paper gaskets that are sometimes included with the valley pan are to thick to use in combination. The old sets that had the thin oilskin type paper gaskets were great for use when installing an aluminimum intake..

I am truckless..

What's the best way to check for
clearance piston to valve.

Remove head and put soft modeling clay on top the piston, reinstall head... turn engine through 2 revolutions, check thickness of clay.

if the deck has been milled&head surfaced milled, the intake now sits up to high and the intake bolts wont go in, i elongated the bolt holes in an intake manifold to get the bolts to go in and took off material from the intake to head mating surface.
