Anyone have a link to a how to manual, or a pdf file, or know where to buy a manual on how to rebuild a 46rh (518) transmission for a 95 ram. I've only ever rebuilt one transmission and my dad has been in maintainance for a paper mill for 25 years so we figured between the 2 of us we would attempt to save $2,000 having the trans taken out, rebuilt, then put back in...and just do it ourselves.

video shows how to dissemble, inspect and rebuild the overdrive unit...the front half is a 727,,

also cover the special tools needed...like a shop press...

I used it and it made rebuilding 3 overdrive units easy.

I have a ram I used just for hauling stuff. Otherwise I don't drive it much, but it needs a trans rebuild too I think. Just don t want to pay for a rebuild that costs as much as the truck. Been wondering if I am up to trying my first trans rebuild.

Let us know how it goes if you do it yourself.

front section is simular to a 727. You need a special compressor tool for the overdrive section, and it is under a large spring load so be careful.

You will need the alignment shaft too. Failure to utilize one and chances are you will not get the overdrive section back on the intermediate shaft.

Thanks, I forgot to mention the alignment shaft, we just use an old intermediate shaft cut to size.
