Rebuilding an AVS 4966S - What, if anything, holds the inlet screen in place? The service manual mentions a spring for the sintered bronze element, but nothing about the screen-type filter.

The screen seems to slip pretty easily in and out of the inlet fitting... having a hard time believing that mere friction will keep it in place. Is there a stop built into the air horn casting that I'm not seeing? Not missing any parts according to the exploded views I've seen.

I've never seen anything retain the screen on the Carter's I've worked on. Just the slight interference fit to the inlet.

Carter performance book exploded view doesn't show anything behind the inlet screen. Probably stops on the right side needle and seat.

If it's not mangled friction will keep it in place. A person could use a mini dab of epoxy.

In it's origional configuration the screen was a snug fit into the back side of the inlet fittihg, nothing more.If it is deformed You can expand it enough to do the same thing.

Thanks alot for replies - I'll try to expand it a bit and make it a bit more snug.
