Any thoughts on the B&M Quick Silver shifter?? Thinking of changing my shifter in my classic.

Is it cable operated? Do you have headers? Way back in the day I put a B&M Star Shifter in my 73 Charger. It was cable operated. I had headers. I never could get it routed right so the cable wouldn't melt. I never could get it adjusted just right so it would shift into all gears perfectly. If it ain't broke, don't try and out engineer the engineers that made your classic. I bought lot's and lot's of replacement cables. It's a head ache you don't need if you don't have one now.

Maybe they make the cables better now. I tried every insulating material including muffler wrap to no avail, and it wasn't near the headers. I used springs and clamps and still the cheap flimsy plastic would melt and leave me stranded. The plastic would melt, then the cable would poke out from the hole and not engage anything. I had to put the emergency brake on, crawl under the car an use a breaker bar to whack it in gear, then I could drive it, while I waited on the new cable to arrive at the parts house. I made sure never to park it where it would need backing up. The entire experience was a complete nightmare. Just letting the guy know what he might be in for. The adjustment always seemed to be "in between" gears or where it needed to be. Get it right for all the other gears, then not have first, etc. Maybe the sold me a chevy unit? lol. I'm glad you didn't have the problems that I did. Maybe mine was a worthless POS from the factory? It did look cool. I ended up putting a slap stick factory shifter and console in, and solved all my problems. Had to lose the buddy seat thing, but it was worth it. YMMV.

I had one. Good quality, nice shifter. As far as the cable goes, it's all in the routing.

It is cable operated. I have a B&M shifter in it now and when I saw the quick silver I liked the way it looked. I have been having some issues with it lately. It has been on the car for 15 years. I am sure they don't last forever!! The car goes to the shop tomorrow to see what is going on. Hoping for the best!! Thank you for all the info!!
