For those of you with front disc brakes...how are you keeping the rotors looking new? They will start looking bad right away if I install them right out of the box. The temps will be very high so I'm guessing RPM will just burn right off. How about masking off the pad contact surfaces and spraying them down with a high temp clear?

What are you using?

I'd go with RPM. BTW, even high temp clear will burn off

I saw a magazine article, I think Mopar Action, said to try spraying hi temp paint down into the fins.

The fins are what I'm worried about the most. They'll start looking scaly in a hurry. Maybe do a combination of RPM and clear?

RPM is great stuff, but just a thought - when it gets really hot I believe it re-liquifies, so unless someone can confirm it is not an issue, I'd be cautious on a rotor hub, for example, just in case it creeps onto the braking surface?

That was my thought as well. I'm also worried about it attracting dust once it liquifies. If all my parts turn into big dirt balls I'm going to be .

How about lightly spraying in there with a high temp gray paint ?

Any suggestions are welcome John. Maybe I should just install them and not worry about it. There's going to be about a 3/16" ring between the pad contact surface and the edge that will get rusty anyway. I just thought someone might have a magic solution.

The gray paint idea is a good one. The rotor would probably start to rust under a clear pretty quickly. A gray paint would keep it looking nicer longer.

Some of you guys need to relax with this stuff. Just spray some cast grey hight temp paint in there and call it done. Who the heck is looking at your disc cooling fins?

I'm looking at them.

Why else am I going to all this other work making the car look nice? I need to be happy with it once it's done.

Find a set of stainless steel rotors (like dirt bikes use you'll never see rust on them DAMHIK) and be done with it.....BTW they won't stop anywhere near what a cast iron rotor will but hey they'll always look pretty and won't rust

I think it's duplicolor that has a dark iron color high temp paint,, that looks convincingly similar ( not same as ) untreated bare iron

once the wheel is on in the ft and dust shields on to cover the back , most will never catch they are painted

I sprayed the stock solid rotors on the rear of an 04 Dakota with regular spray paint. the pads wiped of the paint from the swept surface quickly, but the paint stayed everywhere else, and never burned off.

I would go with a high temp engine paint if you're that worried about it. most spray bomb ceremic paints claim to be good for up to 500-600 degrees. how hard are you going to be pushing your car? how hot do you anticipate getting the rotors?

Just normal driving for this car. Still, rotors get really hot. I just wanted to know what others were doing.
