I am getting ready for filler tomorrow and not sure what to mix it on? I have an old oven tray that is painted metal but I have also used cardbord before. I was looking at plastic cutting boards...any suggestions? I'm not quite sure. Thanks

There are some very thin plastic cutting boards out now. They work great for mixing filler, plus the dried filler will snap right off by flexing the cutting board.

Don't use cardboard, it absorbs too much of the filler. Go to any auto parts or better yet a auto paint store and get yourself a bondo mixing board. Anything stiff you have trouble getting the old bondo off.

I use a board that is made for plastic filler work. It is like a big notebook. It has sheets. use one and throw it away the new one is under it. No clean up!.

Ever noticed some of the oil/moisture in the filler soaks into the box? If so, that should be in the filler. That was pointed out to me by a long time body guy.
I've mixed plenty on card board too, But a mixing board is so much easier to work with, plus are reusable. I think they cost around a buck.

Picture of the mixing board? If so you can see it in this picture sitting on the gallon of plastic.

Those thin hard press board 8.5 x 11 clip boards do pretty well in a pinch.

I use glossy cardboard - like pop containers, anything with a glossy surface - this keeps it from absorbing into the cardboard - plus they are free..

You can also use coated paper plates - same theory.

I use a piece of heavy sheet metal that my Father used back in the 70's (he passed away in 84) so it's kinda sentimental

Best thing I've ever used. Mix body filler and peel off sheet when done.

I have used old phone books. Just tear the page off after. Lasts for a long time.

I really agree, the peel off ones are great. They are study and when done or it dries a bit, just rip off and start anew. Nothing worse than having to try to clean your board or get little debris in your filler.

I've been using cardboard for years. Yes, I will concede that some of the material might get absorbed into the surface, but considering the highly scientific method by which we measure the ingrediants, I doubt it makes any difference.
