It's been a while since I first asked this question and I was hoping someone might have come up with a new product or procedure to remove the contact cement on the roof without damaging the paint on the roof. The car was repainted about 10 years ago.
Thanks

Rather DANGEROUS, but I've always used gasoline to remove vinyl top glue, esp the factory stuff, without damaging the paint, I apply a small amount to a rag then just work a small area at a time, time consuming, but I find it doesn't ruin the paint, just use a good paint prep wax and grease remover to remove the petroleum residues

I use the 3M adhesive remover and a scotch brite pad.

I believe the contact cement is by 3M. I had the top replaced when I had the car painted.
The guy that replaced the top did a bad alignment job and the results were less than acceptable. The seams are wavy. He blamed it on the manufacturer and they blamed it on the installer. So I am stuck in the middle. That was 10 years ago and I have been ignoring it all these years.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will try it and see how it works for me. I was hoping for a magic liquid that you brush or spray on and wipe off the glue.

Let me know how that works. The guy that installed my top didn't trim it in the right places. Now I have a lot of glue at the bottom of the A-pillars I have to remove.
