BasinStBlue OP member B Joined: Feb 2003 Posts: 81 Federal way washington	Wondering if small post [between front and rear side window]can be removed without alot of trouble. Trying to make a hard top for a 68 Coronet r/t rebody.post appears to be welded in.

The jamb is different and it's not just the cut for the window. You're going to leave a mess getting the post out unless you can get down in there and grind the welds off without ruining something else. There's a support at the bottom of the inner panel on hardtops that aren't there on post cars, and there's a 10 gauge brace between the top of the jamb and the quarter that you need or you'll crack the quarter by shutting the door. There's probably more that I haven't thought of too. In short, someone who knows what they're looking at will notice it pretty easily, but I admit people might not be looking for such a bone-headed idea to have played out so you might get away with it. Since you've admitted doing a rebody, you shouldn't mind going ahead and posting the VIN of the car too, right? Everybody makes fun of a hillbilly until they need something fixed

FWIW a friend of mine just had one put on and both him and the guy who put it on were real happy with it. If you need to use the whole roof off a post car, the post is just spot welded in just like everything else. A spot weld cutter, grinder, and maybe a welder if you punch through, and you're done. But, to answer your question, the post is spot welded in at the top and bottom. There are three or four spot welds each. The door jamb stamping is different as the hardtop has a slot for the roll up window to meet the door glass. The door glass is different. Hardtop glass is easier to find, so you should be able to trade the post car glass pretty easy. the window seal channel is different too, you will need the hartop pieces. the interior trim along the top of the winodws is different, as is the metal panel that lines up on the inside base of the rear window. Then there are the various small brackets and mounts that are needed to bolt the roll up window regulator to. In summary, its not as easy as you would think to go from post coupe to hardtop. Or vice versa. More likely solution is to log onto AMD and see what sheet metal you can buy to repair the original hardtop and sell off the post car shell. 68 Road Runner (383/4speed, post car w/decor pkg) - Major Project 69 Road Runner w/472 Hemi & 4 speed. 70 Challenger R/T SE EF8 w/ V9J, U - A32 - Major Project 2023 Ford Mach 1
