I had put my RPM heads on about 2-3 weeks ago. I come to find out many of my lifters needed to be pumped up, while I had the valley pan out I had taken them apart, pumped em up with oil and popped em back in again. I had finished putting it together and a ticking noise was still there. I took it out for a spin hoping the lifter would pump up with the oil nice and hot, nothing...stick ticks. I took it out for a 3 hour drive....still ticks. Something is up with that lifter on the #6 Intake.

Can I replace the one lifter? Do I have to buy a new set? Do I have to get the same exact lifter because I don't remember which manufacturer they were. I know its 1.90" tall and it has the oiling ring about 1/4" all around where the oiling orifice is.

Will a Summit special work if its the same height?

Sure. Iwoulduse the same brand though.

What is the spring pressure. That is why the lifters bleed down.

My space barbroke.

Yes you can change out one lifter , you have to do the normal break in procedure .

There's a reason for the lifter not working properly, take it all the way apart including the little poppit valve and spring on the bottom of the lifter cup, it is a one way valve that may have a tiny of trash or debris in it

Yes you can do one lifter, NO it doesn't have to be the same brand! A lifter doesn't know what brand its neighbors are nor does it care.
(I guess lifters are politically correct)

Man...really? I gotta run it for 20 minutes above 2500rpm...?

I have taken it apart already, thats the weird part...popped the retainer out, pulled the valve with spring, cleaned it out with PJ-1 aerosol, ran the compressed air through it, took out the little recessed tip, cleaned that out and filled with it a little bit of oil. Put it all back together and bench bled it on the drill press.

Looking through the Summit website, if there pictures of lifters is anything like the actual product, looks like the Purple Shaft lifter from MP is the one I have.

Not all lifters are the same , there is no rhyme nor reason for oil band placement and the pushrod cup could be potentially in a different spot .

Yep. True. And as long as the lifter itself does the job its made to do it does not have to match its neighbors.

They would of pumped up when you primed the engine. Where/who told you tp tear them apart? You probally caused the problem by doing so..

I've recently dealt with BB lifters. Pay attention to the "seat height" as that will affect your preload and you don't want too much or too little.

I have seen pics of the Mopar versions and they look like ONE version of the Sealed Power HT-976. I just put 16 of them in my engine -- but when I ordered them, 15 of them were 1 style and 1 of them was another. The 1 was the one that resembled the Mopar performance lifter-- the pushrod cup was completely smooth on the bottom. The other 15 had a small cutout there, not for oil to flow through though. See pic.

I had to order some more and finally got to 16 of what I needed.

All that was to say that they both had different seat heights, and some new Comp Cams lifters I have had an even different seat height.

The HT-976 might be worth a try for you - you can get them at O'Reily auto parts usually a 1 day order by calling the store, and they are cheap. If you need 1, order 4 or 5 and you might see the 2 different versions, you can choose the one closest to the seat height of your old lifters.

I primed the engine...it had alot of play in it...A few of them did...thats why I took em apart and cleaned em out and put them back together, on the drill press they were perfect..All the others aren't ticking...but after I installed it and cranked it over a few hours later it was tick tick tick'ing from the start on the one. I'll order an MP lifter and a Comp Cams lifter..either one looks correct but definitely the comp cams has the right height 1.901. Anyone know the height of the MP lifter?
