Whats the best way to remove the axles from a housing with green bearings? I'm changing the ring and pinion. Do you just pull them out like the stock adjustables?

Way easier than the old floating button in the rear to set end play.............

Turn the brake drum around backwards and put 3 lugnuts
on but keep them loose and use the drum as a slide hammer
of course after you take the 4 retaining nuts off

One thing you will discover with the green bearings is that because the mounting flange doesnt float like the stockers it will be very difficult to get the flange to clear the metal strut that goes between the shoes at the top. The way to get them out then is just pull the backing plate off the studs with the axle so that you can get the flange to clear. No need to disconnect the brake line, as there is usually enough give in the hard brake line to do this without damaging anything. Just don't go nuts with it and you wont have any problem. Install the same way(with the backing plate off the studs).

Only first generation (Mopar Performance/RP-400) Green bearings have that problem.

Most Green bearings incorporate a snap ring and loose fitting flange (Moser/Strange/DoctorDiff/MO-400/ST-400).

Maybe that`s why mine just slide out like the tapered ones...........

Don't know if I have the early or late model bearings, but I know the axles don't feel like they will come out as easy as the stock bearings on my old car. Didn't notice any split rings, but had to go to work and did'nt work on it anymore. If it has split rings do they need removed to get the axles out?

Got the axles out today. Used the reversed drums trick and they came right out. Thanks Mr Pbody!
