New build, The car : 70 B-body street car. 4-speed 3:54 gear, full exhaust mostly street use.
The engine : 30 over 440 block, 4.25 stroke crank, zero deck flat tops, Stealth CNC heads by Modern
950- 4150 Holley , HSC headers, Eddy perf-RPM intake, Hughes roller rockers.
I don’t want to over cam the motor and kill torque, but I would think a larger cam would be fine in a larger motor like this and still be very drivable. I was thinking about 250@ 50 , 110 LSA with around 550-560 lift ? Am I in the ballpark? What do you think?

Probably do better w/ a little more gear.. but seems like a good ball park. You could call one of the custom cam guys and I'm sure they could hook you up. I'm running a comp cams 588 solid roller and it's pretty friendly.

XS282S If you want a radical Idle that gets people talking, and a great cruising attitude.

FWIW, My buddies 70 Challenger is 496 c.i. and sports a 262 duration @.050/ .600 lift solid roller and is about as docile as it gets. All kinds of torque everywhere. And it is an auto car. I think a similar cam would be excellent for you. You could go with a flat tappet solid to keep the cost down and accomplish similar results. Large cubic inch stroker motors swallow up cam duration Don"t be afraid to put a big stick in it.

For 505 cubes a 274S would be an RV/truck cam a 284S a very mild cam so something in 263 @ .050 would be middle of the road give you some pop but still be on the truly streetable side.

you want roller or flat??
This would be a good cam me thinks!

This would be the minimum I would consider at 505 cubes also operating range drops 750 to 1000 rpms with a 505 over a 440 cude engine

In a 505, the XS282s will not sound like much, ....Count on it...I have the same grind in a mild 440 and with the correct carb, it doesnt have a lot of chop to it. It doesnt sound bad, but in a 500 inch motor it wont have much at all...

A buddy (member upnover) has a very similar combo, cepts its a 511. He is using the next size bigger XE grind. I think its the XS290S, 250/256 @.050. In his 511 it doesnt have much idle to it. Sounds like a small hyd grind....

It sounds mild to the ear, but has gone 11.30s(might go 10.9Xs-11.0Xs when sorted) with unported Stealths, 4k flash, and 3.55s...

My advice...call Dwayne Porter and get it cammed right...
