Does anyone know what the CC's are on a 67 383 (2bl?) motor? I am wanting to put together something cheap wiht parts that I now have. 67 383 W/0.020 Deck and a large Dish or, a rebuilt 400 .030 over flat top w/.118 Deck. I have a set of 9115's to help but, I know either way it will still run on low grade Bud Light. Just something to help keep me motivated to finish car untill I can get the Big Dollars and put together the motor I have planned. 69 RR 4spd coupe

I am a firm believer in quench & the 383 w steel shim gaskets & your 915's will get you there.

Yes it would be a quench with the .020 and a .018 gasket but, the dish is not on the open part of the chamber, it is the whole piston.

The piston would have a raised edge around the perimeter(the dish is in the middle) & this edge would give you correct quench distance with this correct. EDIT your saying that even though the quench distance would be correct that there isn't enough area in raised rim of the piston to achieve enough quench?

exactly the flat on a dished piston is maybe a .5 - .625 wide around the outside of the piston , I have one here in my hand , no ruler handy

Johnrr educate me here. the narrow perimeter on a set of stock dished pistons is not enough AREA to create effective quench even if the DISTANCE (.035-.040) is right.

That is correct, not enough area to create quench. There are 2 good articles in the Tech area about quench, what it is, the benifets, and how to acheive it. Time well spent reading, very good info. So back to my original question what is the CC's of the dish? Im just looking for which is going to give me the highest comp.

You will get very small area of quench , but nothing I would call effective . pistons made specifically for this have a D shaped dome , KB hypers , or a D shaped dish .
